SCX first used Mitiga in Libya in a deployment in December 2022. Local area transport mission from Mitiga covered most of Libya, with long haul support from our hubs at Heathrow in the UK and Ras Al Khaimah in the UAE.
Mitiga has a long and interesting history, being used as a military base during WWII, then by the USAF and Italian Air Force during the cold war. You can read more of the history in this wiki article
SCX has a pilot achievement for visiting Mitiga, which is open to any pilot to complete.
To complete the achievement arrive at Mitiga from anywhere 100NM or further away.
Charts for HLLM are available online via the Libyan AIP, or Navigraph Charts (with a subscription)
FSHub has a page on HLLM with data on arrivals and departures plus a link to the the AIP chart linked above. Useful note; FSHub has useful data on all airfields, just use the 'search' box at the top of any FSHub page.
There is an ulterior motive for posting this.... we have a customer who is looking for transport support in Africa in the next few months, and Mitiga is likely to be our staging location for these ops.
